First heard this song last Autumn on a Mixcloud show called "The Oldies Show". I think because Neighbours was about to return I suggested the presenter include some Tony Hatch songs in his lineup.

Anyway this track has become a huge favourite of mine and you wouldn't believe the number of times I requested it be played. Trying to find my own copy but to no avail. I do also think its a real shame you can't download a copy on Spotify.

Thanks for your interest Martin. It was available for a short while to download on Itunes but maybe not anymore. It’s a catchy little number for sure!

What a fantastic story, Ninette.

I am continually amazed by you - is there no end to your talents?!

I prefer the A side too. Lovely voice.

Thank you for your lovely comment Kate. I still love singing but the voice isn’t up to quite so much these days. ❤️

What a great story! I recognise the song, and prefer it to the B side because it's so much of its time and so playful - except for the chill of that last line.( I remember Tony mainly from New Faces in the 70s - a songwriting legend.) Thanks for sharing. X

It's certainly an 'ear worm' I have to avoid listening to it! Yes, Tony was quite well known in the 60s and 70s if you mention him to younger people they don't know who he is. But, most people know 'Downtown' when was a big success for him. Glad you enjoyed the story.

Wonderful stuff indeed ! I haven’t heard the B side for a very long time - it’s still very relevant of course. What an interesting and varied life you’ve led - you can slow down a wee bit now (please !)

I don't want to slow down! Still far too much to do...😊

What a fantastic early experience - and what a cool thing to have! This is a great piece. I especially love the idea of your brother in the sound booth, pushing the little buttons while recording a song about automation. Brilliant.

Oh yes...I never even thought of that! ha ha But I should pretend it was deliberate...you have not read this answer...😂

What Ninette (modest lass) doesn't say us that as a result of the song's use on the BBC TV Licence commercial, it was re-released and made it into the charts. Time for an album, methinks.... 😘

I think it was there for about a day! ha ha My singing days are over. Except that I will be in the Limoux, Toubadours Britanique Pantomime this year playing Queen Crystal...may have to oil the vocals a bit for that!
